不同于高考和四六級，考研英語往往將一些考點設(shè)置在某一基本詞匯的引申義上，而非其基本含義。所以，這在無形中就增加了英語閱讀和理解的難度。下面就帶領(lǐng)大家一起來解析一下考研英語翻譯中常見的比較結(jié)構(gòu)，看看它們在翻譯前和翻譯后是如何發(fā)生化學(xué)反應(yīng)的。

一、1. more than

more than這個詞組本身是“多于，超出，比…多，不僅僅，不止”這個含義。例如：Altogether more than 70 percent of the surface of our planet is covered by water. 這句話可以翻譯為：我們星球的表面有超過70%的部分都是被水所覆蓋的。

而且，more than 放在名詞之前，就是“不僅僅”這個含義了。例如：

①Hibernation is more than sleep. 冬眠不僅僅是睡眠。

②You're more than one man fighting.你不只是一個人在戰(zhàn)斗。

此外，more than 用于形容詞或副詞前，則是可以用來表示程度的。 例如：

①My parents are more than kind to me.則意為：父母對我非常好。

②She is more than careful in doing things. 她做事非常認(rèn)真。

③In class , he listens more than attentively. 課堂上，她聚精會神的聽著。

另外，more than用于句子前，還可用來表示否定。如：

He earns more money than he can spend.他掙了好多錢都花不完。

2. more A than B和less B than A

我們都知道，more后面接的是肯定的對象，less后面的是否定對象。那than呢？More A than B,的含義是“是A而不是B”；與其說B，不如說A“。

①He was more frightened than hurt. 與其說他受傷了，不如說他被嚇到了。

②He is more lucky than clever.他是幸運，而不是聰明。

③He is more a close friend than a boyfriend to her. 他對她而言，是一個親密的朋友，而不是男朋友。

而less B than A則是”是A而不是B“的含義。如：

Jim is less honest than his brother. 這句話則可翻譯為”Jim不像他兄弟那樣誠實“。

3. no more …than和not…any more than

no more …than和not…any more than的含義也是相同的，意思是”正如…也不那樣，A和B都不“。如：

Marry is no more diligent than Tom. 這句話的意思是”Marry和Tom都不勤奮“。同樣的，We can no more leave the Party than fish can leave water.這句話的意思則是：我們不能離開宴會，正如魚不能離開水一樣。

4. no more than 和not any more than

no more than 和 not any more than這對詞組和前面所講的有所不同，它們意思是相同的，都是”不多于，不超過“的含義。例如：

Abraham Lincoln's whole school education added up to no more than one year. 這句話的含義就是：Abraham Lincoln的整個學(xué)校教育時間加起來不超過一年。

5. not more… than

這個詞組看起來和not more than相似，但是含義有很大的不同。它是”不比…“的意思。

This story is not more interesting than that one. 這個故事并不比那個故事有趣。

=This story is not so/ as interesting as that one. 這個故事和那個故事一樣無趣，沒有吸引力。

二、1. rather than和other than

這兩個詞組看起來長的很像，很容易混淆，但是它的含義確具有天壤之別。rather than是“而不是；寧可…也不愿”的含義；而other than則是“除了，不同于”。如：

①I would die rather than surrender.我寧愿死也不投降

②There's nobody here other than me.這個地方除了我之外，就沒有人。

2. would rather than和would rather to

這兩個詞組雖然只有一詞只差，但意義卻完全不同。would rather than是“會，而不是”的含義，而would rather to則是“寧愿”的含義。比如：

①I would rather die than marry you. 我寧愿死也不會嫁給你。

②I would rather die to marry you.我寧愿死也要嫁給你。

3. less A more B

遇到這一句型短語，我們只要要記住一點就行了，即跟在less后面的就是否定的對象，跟在more后面的是肯定的對象。所以，less A more B就是否定的A，肯定的B，即“與其說A，不如說B”這個含義。如：

Interest in historical methods has arisen less through external challenge to the validity of history as an intellectual discipline and more from internal quarrels among historians themselves.對歷史方法的興趣，與其說是起源于對歷史有效性的外部挑戰(zhàn)，倒不如說是起源于歷史學(xué)家們內(nèi)部的爭論。

4. not more than和not less than

not more than 通常用于數(shù)詞之前，意為“至多；頂多；不超過”，其意義與at most相同。not less than 意為“不少于、至少”，意思同at least相近。例句：

①On the ground lay a peasant boy of not more than seventeen. 地上躺著一個不超過17歲的農(nóng)家小男孩。

②Our school has not less than three thousand students. 我們學(xué)校的學(xué)生不少于3000人。
